DSS wins award for empowering clients
Commissioners recognized Wilson County DSS at the December 4, 2017 meeting for receiving a best practice award from the North Carolina Association of County Directors at their Director’s Institute in October in the category of empowering clients to self-sufficiency. The award recognized the agency’s efforts in getting fifteen social workers certified in financial social work. Along with one full-time financial social worker, the additional certified staff incorporate financial social work into their current job duties. They assist customers with financial literacy while working with families on goal-setting such as home ownership and saving for college, they also provide financial education, to help repair credit and plan for a sound financial future.
